FOR STUDENTS
Become a student in the English language tutoring program!

To become a student, you will need to fill out an application form at the front desk of Kearney Public Library. Or, you can download, print, and complete the form and then drop it off at the library.
The forms are available to download here in English and Spanish:

The tutor coordinator will pick up your application at the library and contact you to schedule an English proficiency exam. This exam will determine which textbook level you will need.
When a tutor is available, the tutor coordinator will schedule a meeting to introduce you to your new tutor. After this introduction, you will meet with your tutor for an hour each week at Kearney Public Library. You will need to communicate with your tutor if you are not able to attend a tutoring session.
The weekly tutoring sessions include reading and writing using the activities from the textbooks and workbooks provided by Kearney Literacy Council. Sessions can also include practicing speaking in English with your tutor.
If you are assisting someone with the application process: We understand that adults who want to become more proficient in English may need help completing the application form, finding information online, or reaching out to us. Please email us at kearneyliteracy@gmail.com if you are seeking additional information to help someone become a student in the tutoring program.
